This month we look at everyone’s obsession with Micellar water, the beauty tool that will change your life, Sydney’s most lust-worthy launch plus my nail color pick for the season.
The obsession continues for Micellar water. Here’s why.
While some beauty fads fade (think scary spider lash extensions) others flourish. Falling into the flourish category is the magical Micellar Water. While not new, this multi-tasking water cleverly combines cleanser and toner and it’s the product skincare houses are quickly adding to their ranges.
I was first made aware of it on a beauty shoot where I needed to get a headshot taken. Usually recoiling from the oily makeup removers used on set, I was surprised by the refreshing feel of this particular lotion that speedily whisked away makeup and dirt. The handy thing about Micellar water is the rinse free formula not only limits the friction on skin but also leaves no residue. Skin is left feeling fresh, primed and ready for makeup or moisturizer. Back then those in the know ordered boxes of Bioderma Sensibio H20 Solution Micellaire (now BIODERMA Hydrabio H20) from France and the other makeup artist devotees chipped in for the freight charge. With plenty currently on the market at varying price points, we’re spoilt for choice.
My fab four
Apply your foundation better! (Beauty favorite)
After two decades writing for women’s magazines, a ‘game-changer’ in the beauty world has to be something I’ve never seen before, shaves minutes off my beauty routine or a firm favorite redesigned to offer a near perfect result. Falling firmly into the later category is the new Flawless Complexion Sponge by Manicare. It’s similar to the Beauty Blender bar one distinct feature – the slanted, flat edge. A seemingly unremarkable tweak has totally transformed an already great product design because you can swipe with the flat side then blend and buff using a pushing technique to create a perfect yet natural canvas. The effect is like a second skin so ideal for anyone wanting to create a professional finish themselves.
BEAUTY TIP: Use sponge damp for light, dewy coverage or dry for a more flawless finish.
Beauty Launch to Love
Who: Nude by Nature
What: The Contour and Highlight Collection
Where: Icebergs Dining Room and Bar, Bondi Beach, Australia
Special guest: Model and Brand Ambassador, Elise Taylor
Nothing beats Bondi Beach as a backdrop to an Aussie brand launch, so the Nude by Nature team picked the perfect spot to introduce Sydney’s most prominent beauty media to their latest product collection. While guests delighted in the menu of Grilled King Prawns, Ranges Valley Sirloin and Organic Lemon Semi-freddo (with edible gold dust to match the highlighting theme), makeup artist Elsa Morgan expanded on the uses of The Contour Palette, Glow Highlight Stick and Contour Fluid Trio demonstrated beautifully on Aussie model and Nude by Nature ambassador, Elyse Taylor. Founded in 2008 the brand has since gone on to become the no. 1 selling Australian cosmetic brand and these user-friendly products ought to keep them in the top spot.
Verdict: I’m so over the OTT Kardashian-style contouring so it was refreshing to see contouring products aimed at a glowing, natural result.
The dreamiest pastel polish right now
There’s a chill in the air as Autumn sets in and while I love the leaves-changing-color-snuggle-in-front-of-the-fire situation, the dull winter color palette depress me and the random jewel-tones don’t suit my complexion. That’s why I’m going all out pastel for the colder months starting with this insanely pretty Butter London Patent Shine 10X Nail Lacquer in Candy Floss.
