Clarins Body Fit Anti-Cellulite Contouring Expert, $85AUD
As much as Aussie girls like things home-grown, if it works, they want it! The French and their slimming products have a fine reputation and always lead the way in the anti-cellulite and contouring department. This clever contouring cream cools rather than warms and the tingly sensation seems to tone on contact thanks to organic aquatic mint extract. Quince leaf extract, the other wonder ingredient, acts like a remarkable ‘personal trainer’ for the cells it targets.
St. Tropez Gradual Tan Plus Sculpt and Glow Body Lotion, $35.99AUD
It’s no secret self-tanner hides a myriad of sins, so on-the-go Aussie’s add clever 2-in-1 products to their agenda wherever possible. Apart from giving limbs a luminous sheen (thanks to cosmetic powders reflecting light to blur imperfections), this tanning and toning 2-in-1 uses sea algae extract to tighten skin over time and shea butter to nourish and hydrate. There’s no tint, so you can apply it before bed and wake up looking fabulous. This is one product I wish came in a barrel!
Hot tip: ‘Contrast showering’ is the latest trend, so as the weather warms up, boost circulation by alternating hot and cold water in the shower for a 10-minute session to stimulate your circulation for the day.
Expert In-Salon Treatments
Endota Detox Ritual
Call me lazy, but when I indulge in a pre-summer body treatment that focuses on trimming and toning, stimulating and smoothing, I like to do it lying down. Who said you can’t relax while problem areas get the once over?! When dealing with any or all the wobbly bits, stimulation is key. Designed to purify, tone and heal, this treatment begins at the feet. It begins with a warm foot soak and leg cleanse using the signature lemon peel and sage body cleanser followed by an exfoliation with a heavenly scented coffee and coconut body scrub. One leg at a time is massaged up to knee with another Endota favourite, the Avocado and Mint Foot Cream. After moving on to a cosy, heated massage table, a warm jade stone is placed on the sacrum to ground and centre before the scrub and glow mitts tend to each limb for circulation stimulation. To draw out toxins, a vital element when treating cellulite, a warm detox clay body mask containing a personalised choice of essential oil, is applied. Finally, cocooned in a warm blanket, you get to enjoy a pressure point facial and scalp massage before hopping into a warm shower to get skin clean and ready for a light massage using warmed vanilla and macadamia body drink and Inca inchi treatment oil to nourish and rejuvenate skin. If the aim is to relax and invigorate while firming up skin, this treatment nails it.
Duration: 60 minutes
Cost: Starting from $140AUD
While battling, cellulite can seem tough, so too can those stubborn pockets of unwanted fat. I’ve never been brave enough to try Liposuction so was genuinely excited about the prospect of a treatment that freezes and then eliminates crystalized, dead fat cells forever AND without surgery or downtime.
Initial consultation: Once safely seated in the elegant rooms of the Cosmos Clinic of Double Bay, Sydney, I faced the dilemma of deciding which area on my body to treat. I was secretly delighted when my nurse informed me (after a little love handle grab) there was not enough fat for the machine to grip on to my hips or outer thighs. My lower tummy, however, was a different story. Apparently, it would be ‘ideal’, and the template positioned over the targeted area confirmed the perfect fit. Sometimes a smaller head can be used in four places (like a diamond shape) on stomach but this takes about an hour and half longer, so this time I was thrilled about my little fat pocket! Once that was decided, photos were taken from both the front and sides. Quite often the patient needs to treat the same area twice and these photographic records help.
Once comfortable on a reclining bed, a gel pad was positioned over the skin to prevent freezer burn. The machine was placed on top and suctioned on. You immediately feel the area cooling and after 10 minutes that cold feeling becomes more intense and uncomfortable but not unbearable. I had a moment where I thought I wouldn’t handle the entire 45 minutes but this feeling went after a few seconds.
Post treatment: I was warned my tummy might appear hard, swollen and even bruised. It did appear hard and swollen and the nurse immediately massaged the area. It was a weird sensation, like ‘pins and needles’ with blood rushing back to where the machine had gone to work. They were spot on about the ‘no downtime’ as I simply hopped off the bed, thanked my nurse, pocketed some info and went to meet a friend for lunch. There was some tenderness but otherwise I felt great!
Days 1-4 post treatment: Tummy still a little swollen and tender to touch but no bruising.
Days 5- 8 post treatment: Still tender and now with a slightly itchy, tingling sensation. Seems less swollen.
3 weeks’ post treatment: Slight tenderness but with a definite decrease of size.
3 months’ post treatment: Tummy smaller by at least 10% and visibly flatter.
Cost: Start at $850AUD but go to as low as $600AUD when packaged.
