Getting pampered in their ultra luxurious spa plus a whole array of activities can help one unwind. Overall a trip to the Hotel Del Coronado is more than just a vacation.
Geographically Hotel Coronado is not too far from Hollywood! And by the looks of their guest list it’s almost all the same people too. Not only did the Del have an amazing list of celeb guests but many Hollywood films were shot here as well. By the 1920’s Hollywood was the center for movie making and although the Great Depression occurred Hollywood did not suffer too much, in fact the movie industry was the only industry unaffected by it because the movies were the one thing that allowed people to escape their problems. So during the 20’s and 30’s the Del was a top spot for tinsel town to mingle. Some names include: Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, Greta Garbo, Clark Gable, Rita Hayworth, Ginger Rogers and Will Rogers. As time went on the top stars continued to stay there. Then in 1958 history was made when they shot Some Like It Hot with Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis. Some of the more recent celebrities spotted there include. Madonna, Oprah, Brad Pitt and Jack Nicolson.
The resident ghost that stays at the Del is known as Kate Morgan. A young gorgeous lady who checked in, in 1892 but never checked out. She took her own life after waiting for 5 days for a lover that never showed. Some rumors say that she was even pregnant. The ghost of Kate Morgan has been seen walking down the hallways and along the beach. Other paranormal activity has been reported like glassware flying off the shelves and sheets being pulled off the guests while they are sleeping.
