The Carlyle – A Manhattan Glamor
The Carlyle hotel is one of New York’s most decadent and luxurious hotels, which hosts local and international celebrities, including a very impressive line up of presidential guests.
I believe this is where JFK and Marilyn conducted their affair. I wish I could have been a guest back then…
Walking through the hotel you can’t help but feel that it’s caught in a time warp but in a good way with grand pianos randomly placed, crystal chandeliers, original Lois XV furniture and there are even white-gloved lift operators in every lift!
Cocktails in Bemelman’s bar (named after the author of the beloved Madeleine children’s book series) are a must. As a struggling artist, Bemelman’s offered to paint murals of Central Park on all the walls in return for free accommodation. This is truly a feast for the eyes while sipping on a cocktail.
Another must is Monday Night Jazz with special guest Woody Allen.
And don’t leave the hotel without a treatment at the SENSE spa and a visit to the Yves Durif salon.

SENSE Spa
Is a luxurious, boutique style spa that offers a tranquil oasis away from the bustling streets of New York. You begin to unwind the minute you start to descend the spectacular barrel-vaulted stairwell that is finished in naturally shimmering platinum mosaic tiles.

The treatment – HAMMAM
My treatment started with a vigorous body exfoliation using a mixture of salt, coffee, olive oil and lemon followed by a Rhassoul clay wrap which draws out any impurities.
A Kohler DTV shower follows this, which is a multi-sensory experience of water, sound, light and steam. I could have stayed under the shower for hours – amazing!
My treatment finished with a luxurious massage of sweeping movements using aromatic oils and creams.
I would certainly recommend this treatment after a long haul flight as it leaves you feeling relaxed and revived!
