Quick Tips
✦ For massage, essential oils need to be mixed with carrier oils because they are too concentrated on their own and can harm the skin. The best carrier oils are sweet almond, apricot and hazelnut oils.
✦ Read the labels of aromatherapy oils to look for “pure essential oil” synthetic oils are very strong and instead of soothing you they can give you a throbbing headache.
✦ Store oils in a cool dark place and choose dark bottles. Once opened, use oils within 2 years maximum.
✦ If you’re pregnant or on medication consult a doctor or an aromatherapist before using essential oils.
✦ Never take essential oils internally or apply undiluted to skin. The only oils that can be dabbed on neat are tea-tree and lavender, which soothe burns and act as antiseptic. Don’t use lavender on skin if you’re pregnant.
✦ If you suffer advanced asthmatic conditions, epilepsy or a heart condition, seek medical advice before using any of these oils.
